Special Ed Speaks was born out of a need and a desire. The initial need was to educate others on my population of students and what I do as a teacher. My desire was to try to erase the idea that, as teachers, we are just glorified babysitters: that my students don’t understand and cannot learn: and that there is so much more to Special Education then what meets the eye. Especially when we deal with students with severe disabilities. Special Ed Speaks continues to slowly evolve, but I want to do more. There is so much more my students need, so much more that they can do and participate in, but because of lack of opportunities, resources, information, knowledge, and money, those things are not happening for them. With the help of HOPE, we look to take Special Ed Speaks to the next level, so that SES’s voice can be heard loud and clear!
